Fue una ciudadana ilustre de Salto.<\/p>\n<p>Ofelia era profesora de Historia y ocup\u00f3 el primer puesto nacional en oposici\u00f3n. Adem\u00e1s, fue catedr\u00e1tica en Historia Universal en la ense\u00f1anza secundaria y en los preparatorios universitarios desde el a\u00f1o 1952 hasta 1975, cuando fue destituida por la dictadura militar. Desde 1986, con la restituci\u00f3n del Gobierno Democr\u00e1tico, inici\u00f3 su carrera como investigadora de las ra\u00edces hist\u00f3ricas del Uruguay.<\/p>\n<p>Destac\u00f3 como impulsora de la recreaci\u00f3n de La Redota, que ilustra el momento cumbre del \u00c9xodo del Pueblo Oriental, en homenaje al ideario artiguista. Tambi\u00e9n fue miembro de la Comisi\u00f3n del Patrimonio Hist\u00f3rico de Salto y una gran defensora del pensamiento de Artigas.
